The History of Photography is the History of Unhappiness
The history of photography is the history of unhappiness
This work is a meditation on the role of photography in our lives. It asks: What do we choose to remember, and why? It challenges us to confront the emotions behind the images we create and consume. It reminds us that every photograph is a testament to something that once was and will never be again. “The History of Photography is the History of Unhappiness” is not a condemnation of the medium, but a celebration of its honesty. Photography does not lie; it reveals. It shows us the world as it is—beautiful, fleeting, and tinged with sorrow. Through this work, we are invited to see not just the images, but the emotions they carry, and to reflect on our own relationship with memory, loss, and the passage of time. In the end, this manifesto is a call to embrace the unhappiness that photography reveals. For in that unhappiness lies the truth of our existence—the truth that we are all, in some way, trying to hold onto the light before it fades.
